Aquarium, Birthdays, and Easter

The months just keep getting busier and going faster! And I hear that the older you get it just gets more and more that way... I don't know if I can handle that. I already feel like it's all I can do to keep my eyes open to watch Henry change and progress. Sometimes I just cry because my baby is gone, and I know he is still so little but he is so much bigger than he was! I love that little guy.

I am still volunteering at the Seattle Aquarium, and I love it! The drive is about an hour there and an hour and half back, so that is pretty tiring. But it is only one day a week and I love it once I am there. On March 3 I got hit by a taxi in downtown Seattle, which has been an absolute disaster. I have had to deal with the insurance company and it has taken HOURS on the phone. But, I think it is finally over, or it will be soon anyways. I started the training to be able to feed the animals in LOTE (Life on the Edge- the tidepools) and the octopus! Woo hoo!! I did some training on my birthday and watched the feeding of the octopus while I held the ladder and Luci did the coolest things! She was demonstrating some really unique hunting behaviors, called parachuting, and she eventually just flipped upside down and spread all of her tentacles out with her mouth at the top of the water. She was ready! Haha. It was a really cool experience, and I was so glad to have that happen on my birthday! The next week I started my training and shadowed the girl feeding the octopus and next week it will be my turn!

Rusty and I went out on our first date without H in a few months. It's hard to get a sitter for him, not that he's a hard baby but just because you have to plan it out and pay someone. But he set it all up and we went rock climbing and got our favorite fish n chips by the Ballard Locks. The climbing gym was awesome and even had an outdoor wall. The weather was so nice that we spent a lot of time out there, and the view from the top was great! When we got the food we ate it sitting by the locks. It was great!

St. Patrick's Day came and we had a delicious dinner and of course, the famous St. Patrick's Day cake. The weather was great that day, and it had been great for about a week so we were spending a lot of time outside playing! We took the canoe out for the first time this year and had a blast! Henry loves the water so much that all he wanted to do was jump in, so it was a bit of a struggle to keep him onboard.

My birthday came and went and it was wonderful! I've never been a little anxious about my age, but this one was a little harder. Rusty was teasing me and pointed out that I am more than a quarter of the way through my life. That was rough to swallow, and I just kept thinking about all of the things that I hadn't done that I wanted to do! To help, I started making a list of all of the things that I have accomplished in my 25 years of life. While it may not be full of the most exciting or best things to some people, for me they are great. I am very happy with my life and with the place I am at now, as well as the places that I have been. It's still hard to be getting old (haha 25 isn't even that old!!) but I feel like if you just enjoy your life each day and are working towards goals, there is nothing to regret. That's what I'm doing. My actual birthday was on Thursday this year, so I went to the aquarium and started my octopus training. After I got home, Rusty had a surprise ice cream cake and presents for me before we went to dinner at a new little bistro-type place in downtown Snohomish. It was delicious and such a fun new place! When we got home we ate our cake, opened presents, and watched the last Hunger Games movie that Rusty had gotten from RedBox. We'd been wanting to watch that for a while and had not gotten around to it. I got a beautiful wooden silhouette of Henry's profile from my mom (LOVE it!!), two seasons of I Love Lucy from my hubs, and beautiful flowers and a cook book from my second mom. My favorite part was all of the calls and texts that I got from people that I love and miss.

On Saturday Rusty got a babysitter for us so that we could go and do my birthday date! We went indoor skydiving and it was a blast! When we got there we got to sit and watch the people before us and they were just hovering around before they shot way up high out of eyesight. My friend had told me about the "high flight" and that we needed to do it, and she even kind of explained it to me. But for some reason, seeing it actually happening in front of me was a terrifying thing. I got SO nervous and thought I was going to die. We got all suited up and went out and it was so much fun, and not scary at all! On the second flight we did the high flight where you shoot up to the top, then drop down to the bottom, and repeat that three times. It was the best part, I could not stop laughing. Great birthday present :)

Easter weekend was a blast! We colored eggs, did a little egg hunt, had our baskets, and had a nice dinner. It was a nice, quiet holiday!

For the last weekend my parents came into town and it was so much fun! We went to a Korean Restaurant and played at the park, and then we went to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival! It was really cool to try something new for food, and to just spend time with my family.

Henry's Highlights!
  • He started taking a few steps at the beginning of February, but now he has really taken off! He is walking around everywhere and can stand up on his own now without pulling himself up on anything. Sometimes he gets so excited that his little legs go too fast for his feet and he just face plants it. But some things are hard.
  • He is learning so many things! He loves to clap, make the "Indian war-cry" sound by hitting his hand on his mouth and yelling (but he uses the back of his hand), and wave.
  • He babbles and makes lots of different sounds, and says "nana" for banana.
  • Henry is still a little flirt and loves to smile shyly at everyone. He'll often double take and follow a girl that walks past him.
  • He loves to drive the car and truck and will sit in there forever!
  • One of his favorite things to do is push around his little 4 wheeler that he got for his birthday. He will just do laps around the kitchen and dining room. He also loves his toy train, puzzles, and stacking cups.
  • He has fallen completely in love with this giraffe that we have named Geoffery the Giraffey. He sleeps with it and lots of times will want to carry it with him after he wakes up. When you hand it to him he gets so excited and just gives it this huge kiss and hug!

  • Henry still gives kisses and has gotten better about understanding when we are asking for a kiss. He still doesn't do it every time, but hey. What can you do.
