April: Cama Beach and Tacoma

Yay for Spring!! Woo hoo, it is so much fun now that the weather has started to get better. We have spent a lot of time outside enjoying it, and Henry loves it. Things are just chugging along here at home! Rusty is doing great at work and is running a few meetings and doing his special assignments. He gave presentations to all the big wigs at Boeing this month (including the president of the site!) and rocked them of course. He's so good. I'm still going with the Aquarium and really loving it! I fed an octopus for the first time on April 7, and it was so wonderful! I didn't even fall in, and Nacho didn't take the stick away. He normally is not a very exciting eater, but he he woke up and grabbed the fish and then stuck it right in his mouth! Good boy, Nacho.

Henry is just doing great! He is walking so good now, that the zombie arms are almost completely gone now, which I am quite saddened by actually. He still loves music SO much and still loves being outside. Anytime we open the door  he just starts squealing and bolts. We got him a little inflatable pool and set up the basketball hoop that Grandma Pollard got for him for his birthday, and he is in heaven now in the backyard. We also got a little sandbox for free that I think he is going to love! It's so fun to have a backyard that is so much fun for him! We put a garden in the backyard and are really excited to see how everything goes!

At the beginning of the month my parents were here for the weekend, and it was a lot of fun! We went to the Tulip Festival, a Korean restaurant, the park, and I showed them the aquarium while I was volunteering. Saturday night they stayed home and watched Henry while Rusty and I went out on a date to Seattle to have dinner and a fancy restaurant before going to Blue Man Group. For dinner we went to a trendy place right downtown, called Lola's, and it was our first restaurant like that downtown ever. It was really fun! And tasty. It was a modern take on Greek food, and we really enjoyed it. We walked around a little bit and had a... fun interaction with a man. Haha. We turned the corner and this man with a shirt on his head (like when it gets stuck when you're trying to take it off) came running up to us and looked Rusty up and down and then turned to me and put both of his middle fingers up and yelled, "You wanna fight?!" and a whole bunch of other things that were incomprehensible. I just stood there with my eyes HUGE trying to figure out what happened, but Rusty instantly poofed up and pulled me behind him. I didn't want anything to happen so I pulled Rusty away, and then we just couldn't stop laughing! We went to a little waterfront area on Lake Union that we've never been to before and hung out for a little bit before going to The Cheesecake Factory to get some cheesecake before the show. Neither of us really knew what to expect from Blue Man Group, we just had heard that everyone should see them sometime in their lives and so when the tickets popped up we decided to go! And my goodness am I glad we did. It was incredible! It was hilarious and had us laughing so hard, and then it was also really intriguing with the music and visuals. All in all, it was a very enjoyable experience and we were so glad that we went!

There was a week this month that was National Volunteer Appreciation Week, so if I took my badge with me I could get in to a bunch of places for free! I decided to take advantage of this and went to the Museum of Flight with Henry on Tuesday, the Woodland Park Zoo with Henry and our friends Amber and Bennett on Wednesday, and the Museum of Glass and Le May's Car Museum on Saturday with Rusty in Tacoma. I had never been to the Museum of Flight before, but it is the #1 thing to do in Seattle on TripAdvisor and I had heard really great things about it! It is really amazing to walk into the gallery and see all of the planes there! Henry liked it and loved running around, and even got to sit in a cockpit of a jet! He also loved playing with some pretend controls in the tower.

The Zoo was awesome too! Henry ran all over the place and loved seeing the animals. His favorite was by far a small goat that he got to touch, which makes me excited to take him to the free petting zoo we have here in the summer! I think he will be in heaven! He also really loved seeing the giraffe, (which I think has become my favorite animal), some fish, and going into the rain forest area with all of the birds. It was a great day!

\One Saturday we went with Katie and Cody to Cama Beach on Camano Island. None of us had ever been there before, but I had heard really great things so we thought we would give it a shot. It was so great! There are a few hiking trails there in the state park, and it's just a short walk down to the beach. The beach itself is rocky (like all beaches here) but the water was incredibly clear! It was so beautiful! I brought H's swim suit and sun screen just on the off chance he would get in, but knowing how much he loves water that was actually a pretty good chance. And he did get in. I don't know what it is with him but cold water doesn't seem to even bother him. We hung out there for a little while and then grabbed some Subway on the way home.

Saturday we decided to take a day trip down to Tacoma. Neither of us had ever been there before and as we first drove in I was definitely not impressed. See, there is this rivalry that goes on between Seattle and Tacoma, and when we drove in and it was all gross industrial stuff and a million bridges and dirty things everywhere, I couldn't help but think of this rivalry and wonder how it even got started! Seattle totally wins! But we drove around a little bit and ended up in Old Town Tacoma, and it was adorable! And then we made it to the newer downtown section and it was actually pretty nice. I wouldn't mind going back to spend another day there to walk around. After a little driving tour, we went to the Museum of Glass. Our first stop there was to see the area where they actually blow the glass, and we sat there for a while watching them working with these big cylinders that they were putting decals on. It was interesting, but I really wanted to see them actually blow something! I got up my nerve and asked a guy if they were going to be doing that anytime soon and he said not for a few more hours, but that he could do a little something just for us! That was so cool! He got everything ready and then came over right in front of us and showed us how they blow into the pipe to make the glass expand like a balloon. He did it a few times and it was just incredible, and it made the glass so thin! He broke it off and then let us touch the thin glass. Super cool experience! Then we went and walked through the gallery. It wasn't very big, but my favorite pieces were the fruit bowl and the flowers. Then we went outside and let Henry play with these xylophones for a while before heading to the park for our picnic!

The picnic was my favorite part of the whole day! We went across the bridge and went to the Tacoma Narrows Park, which had a little grassy area with picnic tables and some open field before going down to a nice little beach that you can walk on. The view was incredible! You could see the main land and the bridge and it was so sunny and beautiful outside. We laid out our blanket and ate our lunch before walking along the beach for a little bit.  Henry loves the water so much that we couldn't spend much time down there or he would have thrown a fit because we wouldn't let him in the water haha.

After our picnic we walked along a little trail at another park before going to Le May's Car Museum. This is supposed to be one of the best car museums in the country, and I don't think it disappointed! Let me be clear, I don't really care about cars. This stop was definitely for Rusty haha. But he would get so excited and gasp when he saw something he loved that it was great to be there. And I do think that some of those old cars are just beautiful! Mostly I just loved watching Rusty get so excited.

Henry's Highlights

Oh this little man is just so much fun! He is learning so many things and it is so enjoyable to watch his wheels turning.
  • He is walking so great!
  • He LOVES music. He will stop whatever he is doing to listen to the music, and he has even started dancing by shaking his head back and forth like he is saying, "no" really fast. Sometimes he squats up and down haha. He still loves playing the piano with mommy and will sit on my lap and then pick my hands up and put them on the keys to play.

  • Henry loves to help! He is Mommy's little helper and loves to be handed things from the washer and put them in the dryer. After he is handed the dryer sheet he knows that it is time to close the door! Sometimes he likes to help with the dishwasher too, but that is much more difficult. For Mommy.
  • Henry is absolutely obsessed with dandelions. Truly OBSESSED. We went to the park after a date one night and let him just roam free through some fields. He was so happy and loved playing with them!

  • There is this new ritual that he does after bath time, and it seriously just cracks me up. I will take him into his room in his towel to put on a diaper and his pajamas and as soon as I lay him down he gets up and just starts running around naked. And he thinks it is HILARIOUS. Also, so do I. He will run away and down the hall and then back to the doorway and then down the hall, repeated a million times. It has become one of my favorite parts of bedtime routine.
  • Water is still the all time winner for him. Rusty's mom got him one of those super cool basketball hoops for his birthday and now that he is walking so good we set it up for him. He does really love it and it was fun to see how quickly he caught on, but for a while all he wanted to do was play with the little water hole in the back (that weighs it down). He just loves ALL water. Now, if you say "Slam dunk!" he will go and put the ball in the hoop!
  • Teething slowed way down this month. He still has 4 on top and 3 on bottom. He had a really bad cough and runny nose for about three weeks, and at the end I was really worried because it was like a faucet coming from his nose and his eyes! But just as I was about to give him the antibiotics from the doctor he started to turn around and got much better.
