June: Car Seat Poop and Orange Juice on the Beach

I think we are cursed with road trips. We made a trip out to Colorado for Rusty to get some work done and to attend the family reunion at the cabin. We got everything packed and started driving and I turned around to check on Lia as we were getting on the onramp. There was a big pile of something that looked like the inside of fig newton bar, but I didn’t remember giving her one of those to eat. So I unbuckled and stuck my hand in it just to find out that it was poop. Yep. She had a diaper thong and her poop just went straight into the car seat because she didn’t have any pants on. Rusty pulled over and I got out and saw that not only was it all over her hands, but it was on her mouth. SHE HAD EATEN HER POOP. OH MY GOSH. I couldn’t believe it, my sweet baby ate poop. I told Rusty we could never tell anybody because I didn’t want them to view her different haha.

We made our first stop at Granddad and Grandma Joan's house. We got there really late at night and slept in their RV and then spent the next morning and afternoon with them. It was great to catch up, ride the horse, and spend some time outside with them. We sure love them!

Then we made our way to Canon City to go to Phyllis' house. Rusty, Kirk and Phyllis all had some work he had to do, which left me and the kids home to ourselves. Della ended up getting sick and throwing up which was not ideal at all, but none of the other kids got it which was a big blessing.

We spent the weekend up at the cabin with all of Rusty's siblings and had a great time! A bull moose walked right through camp, the kids played endlessly in the canoe, we did nature hikes, ate yummy food, and even tried some new things! We went rock climbing up there and let the kids go and they all had a great time! And we went to the hot springs in Salida which was really fun!

While we were up there the boys did a lot of work to remove that old dead tree and chop it up for firewood!

The kids got sent off by me to do a scavenger hunt with a camera. They had a blast and the adults got a little bit of peace and quiet. So rare!

Rusty and his brothers got up early one morning and went fishing just them! The pictures turned out beautiful, and Rusty siad that he had a great time hanging out with them and just relaxing.

Rusty got to go mountain biking with some friends and then dirt biking! He did a couple of different rides and really had a great time!

The two older kids and I went and met Bryndee and her boys to watch Cruella at the movie theater! It was a special treat to go see a movie, and special to have some time with just them without the baby. They loved going and getting some popcorn and pop, and they really loved the movie too! Afterwards we went and played at the Bartons' house for a little bit.

Red Sign, Rusty's old company, was doing an event at Seven Peaks so we got to get in for free! We headed over there and even though the weather wasn't super perfect we had a lot of fun! I got to go on a big ride with Henry that I couldn't do last year because I was pregnant, and we had one more baby to play with in the water. We all had fun and the kids loved doing the slides! I took Lia down one and lifted her head up so she wouldn't get wet and ended up bumping along the bottom and getting my head under the water haha. Whoops.

We had a great little Powell Family Reunion that Jessica planned down in Moab. My family went down a day early to meet Jess and Aaron so we had time to do a few extra things we wanted. We camped and then spent the next day taking turns to ride our mountain bikes! The views were really pretty. Then we went out and saw Dead Horse Point all together. The story of how it got its name is absolutely awful.

After that we went to the campsite and everyone else had arrived! Arron made some yummy food and we talked and hung out for a while. We ended the day by seeing a sunset up at Delicate Arch! The kids all did such a great job on the hike, and Rusty had never seen it before so it was really cool to see it with all of them. And seeing the sun set up there was really beautiful!

The next day we went canyoneering! Mom and Dad weren't feeling up for it so they stayed back and watched teh kids so that Rusty and I could go! It was a really long, hot day and I remember thinking that all I wanted was to jump in some cold water haha. We finished the canyon and then just all went and jumped in the Colorado River and it felt SO good!

We heard these crazy loud sounds when we were hiking out, and it turned out to be these giant bull frogs! So cool!

After the canyoneering trip we went and got the kids and my parents and we all went to Ken's Lake. It was really windy and there was some party there that was blasting music really loudly, but Henry and Della still had a fun time Amelia was not as into it and so we didn't stay super long before heading home and having dinner.

After dinner that night we did a Bob Ross paint night! It was actually super hilarious. Josiah dressed up like Bob Ross and taught us how to paint Delicate Arch and us rappelling from i. He spoke like him and everything! None of us could stop laughing. Aside from how hilarious it was, it was actually just really fun to be painting by the lantern light in the desert at night on a tiny little easel. It was so fun!

The next morning, we got up really early and went and saw the sun rise through Mesa Arch in Canyonlands! Getting up early is always hard for me, but it is always so peaceful and happy once you make it there. Rusty stayed back with the kids because he was not interested in going haha. But seeing the whole world come to life never gets old for me, even if I don't do it very often. Watching the sun come up under that arch was pretty magical.

After sunrise Olivia wanted to go take a bunch of pictures of herself in the desert, and Della was sad she couldn't go too. So Jessica took her and did a little photo shoot with her while I took Henry on the four wheeler to go see the petroglyphs. Fun fact, Jess and Della went a little after us and Della almost stepped on a rattlesnake! AHHH!

Then we packed up and moved out! There was this little bug that Della loved and actually tried to stick in her suitcase to take home with us haha. It would not leave us alone! I took it off of my leg about ten times and it always jumped back on. On the way out of town we stopped and got the kids some ice creams! Woo hoo! What a fun weekend!

We bought a big, inflatable slide because it was on sale and I was a sucker for it. But I have no regrets because the kids love it and play on it all of the time! Lia is too small to go down the slide, but she likes the bottom as a little wade pool. She also just likes to push on the sides because they're squishy haha.

Orem Summerfest is one of my favorite parts of summer! We went twice this year, one in the evening for Della's talent show with her dance group and then we stayed and got some yummy pizza and a funnel cake. It is just so fun to walk around and people watch and feel the overall vibe of the night. I love fun summer festivals like this!

We came back another time and rode rides and Della was in a float for the parade! The kids had a blast riding the different rides and Della really loved being in the parade! By the end she was starting to get cold so we jumped out of the slow moving float when it went by Rusty and finished the night off with them and got her in some dry clothes. That night we stayed and watched the fireworks. I love Summerfest, it feels so summery and it makes me so grateful to live in Orem.

I did not love being on the flaot with loud children squriting me with water.

So we had some crappy stuff happen with our house this month. The tenants texted Rusty and said that the toilet wouldn't flush, and then it started backing up. They went out of town so Rusty went down to take a look and it just flooded the whole bathroom with sewage water. YUCK. He called in a plumber, talked to plumbers on the phone (including Uncle Kelly), and did all kinds of things like snaking the line, putting a new toilet in, cleaning the vents on the roof, and having the city come out with a scope. Eventually we found out that the line was still intact, but it had a big bend in it so it wasn't working. We had to have a crew come out and dig up our entire front yard and put in a new lateral line. It cost $12k. Being a homeowner is the worst sometimes.

We went and saw a magic show at the Orem Library with some friends and it was awesome! We were a little late so I told Rusty that I would take the big kids and just run in and get seats. After a while Rusty came in with the diaper bag but no Amelia. We just looked at each other and then I mouthed, "WHERE IS THE BABY?!?!?!" and he just mouthed a curse word and then booked it out of the room haha. Henry and Della were both totally into the magic show, but especially Henry. He just kept looking at me with his mouth open saying, "WHAT?!"

I had the chance to go on a girl's trip to Destin, Florida! What?! I don't do things like this. I think the last time I did something like this was July of 2019, I guess other than the little night away for Mom's birthday in May. But anyways, Bryndee wanted to have a birthday celebration for her 30th birthday and have some girls out to Destin to spend the weekend. She is doing some AirBnbs out there so we came to hang out there. I flew out on Friday and was on the same flight as two of her friends, Chloe and Ashley, that I didn't know. But we met up before we got on the airplane and spent our flights and layovers together. Then Bryndee and her friend Kylie (who I also had never met) came and picked us up from the airport. We went to Applebee's and got some half off appetizers and then went home to sleep. The condo didn't have a lock on the front door, and I think that combined with the fact that I went to bed really late ended with me having a stupid panic attack. This is like the third one this month and I am getting so tired of it and frustrated. I didn't fall asleep until like 5 AM and then woke up at 10. So the rest of the day I was a little shaky and tired but it was okay. We drove over to see Bryn's house that she is working on and then we headed over to the beach! This beach is perfection. The sand is soft and white, the water is bright blue and green, and the water is like bath water temperature. I WANT TO LIVE ON THIS BEACH FOREVER AND EVER. We played here for a little while before we left to go do a sunset and dolphin tour. We saw one dolphin, which was less than I was thinking haha, but the whole thing was fun. The guys working were hilarious and kept yelling "WINE!" or "BEER!" and doing the funniest things. It was great. Then we walked around the piers a little bit before heading home so I could go to bed. I showered and went to bed around 10:30 that night and slept with no panic attacks.

The next day we woke up and it was rainy so we went to a little strip mall area and got some seafood and went shopping for souvenirs and sunglasses. I got some cool things to bring home for the kids! Then Bryn picked us up and we went home to change and went out to the beach again. It was kind of chilly and rained a tiny bit, but I just love being at the beach so that was okay. Then we changed and went to dinner at Sharky's, a place right on the beach. It had an hour wait so we went down and walked and sat on the beach while we waited. They had live music and it was really fun!

Monday we woke up and moved some stuff out for Bryn and then went to a breakfast place. This one was on the water too so I ordered and then spent some time sitting by myself on the beach relaxing and soaking up as much of the beach as I could. Then Bryndee brought me down my fancy orange juice I wanted haha! Mimosas always make me think of "girls trips" but I don't drink alcohol, so I said I just wanted my orange juice in a fancy cup. So Bryndee asked the waitress and then brought it down as a surprise. SO fun! We went to the airport and flew home.

I am so grateful for Rusty for not only being supportive of this, but being so insistent. When I told him about this he was like, "Of course you're going." I have been so bratty about his work trips that I feel bad haha, but he is the best and I love him. I missed him and my babies and was so excited to see them when I got home!

Henry's Highlights:

  • He lost his other front tooth, but it was so weird! His permanent tooth started coming in and pushed the corner of his tooth so it went crooked. It was at a 45 degree angle and looked so weird. My OCDness did not like it at all and I eventually pulled it, but the tooth was hollow! It left all of his blood vessels and nerves inside of it and it was shaped exactly like his tooth and was even at the same angle. What in the world. That has never happened to me. I called the dentist and freaked out and sent him pics, but he said that everything was fine. The tooth fairy brought Henry $2 for his troubles haha.

  • When we were in Colorado we went to Sonic and Henry said, "OOO Sonic?! That makes me rub my hands together!" haha
  • Henry and Della made up a song to convince me that they should be able to watch a show

Adeline's Adventures:

  • Della and Henry were playing super heroes and she said that her super power was being "super fancy" because she my robe sash. Henry asked her how he could beat her and she said, "Do you want to get married?" He said, "No!" and she replied, "Well that's how you beat me." Haha what?!
  • One night I was laying down on my bed after I put the kids to bed. I heard a kid coming in my room so I closed my eyes to pretend like I was sleeping and I hear Della's voice say: "Why are you sleeping in not pajammies? Are you being funny?" Haha. I couldn't pretend to sleep anymore and just laughed out loud.
  • Jumped in by herself at the hot springs. Gave me a heart attack! She can float on her back really well, I finally had her stop by the time I counted to 80 and she can jump in and start floating on her back mostly unassisted, but I don't feel entirely comfortable with that. She wanted to get back in the warm water and just jumped haha!

Amelia's Updates:

  • She is 9 months old!
  • She is crawling! She started crawling on June 1, but got the hang of it more by June 3 and was cruising like crazy by the middle of the month.
  • Lia likes to eat hair. She just always grabs it and chews on it or sucks on it, and it's super gross
  • Started waving! She did it a little bit to Rusty and I, but in Colorado she did it to Granddad and then ever since then it has been really intentional.
  • If I ask, "Where's Dada" she looks for him
  • She holds her arms up to be picked up, babbles a lot, and can turn pages in a book
  • She loves to play, "Where's Lia?!" when you put a blanket on her head and she pulls it off. She always looks so proud of herself!
  • She has 6 teeth, four on top and two on bottom
  • Her favorite book is this little touch and feel book called "That's Not My Mermaid"
