I finished up my training at the aquarium and then started volunteering! I really enjoy it, and have been able to work with people at the tide pools, shark research station, octopus tanks, and the closer look table in the back. I'm loving being able to see these animals and talk to people about them. In March I can start training to feed the animals in the touch tanks and the octopus! Hooray! There are also some more training classes I can and then I can work in other areas of the aquarium. We do a little get together at the beginning of every shift and talk about what's new for the day and talk about some cool animals.
Henry had his FIRST BIRTHDAY! What in the world?! It has really has gone so fast! This little man has absolutely flipped my world upside down, and I can't imagine it any differently. He brings so much joy to our lives and I feel more love for Rusty as well. A few days before his birthday we had really great weather so I decided to take him to a park and take some birthday pictures. He was not feeling it and did not want to take any pictures but just wanted to play in the grass and look at the birds haha.
We just had a little party with some of our friends and gave Henry his presents and a banana cake to have all to himself. The party was SO much fun! We had our neighbors Henry and Jan, and then our good friends Katie and Cody, Sami and Colton with Jace, Amber and Kenny with Bennett, and Sami's parents. It was so great to have everyone there, and it was so much more fun than I even thought it would be. Everyone had a great time and we ate some pulled pork, cole slaw, and chips before Henry opened presents and then had cake. I was hopeful that Henry would just demolish his cake, but he was really confused and unhappy about it haha. I thought that maybe it was because everyone was staring at him and being loud, and he also didn't ever take his morning nap before his party, but a few days later I gave him some more cake and he did the same thing haha. He did not want to touch it and get his hands dirty. Funny little man!
We opened up his presents and it was fun! He was really interested in the presents and unwrapping them.
Henry woke up from a nap on his real birthday and we piled in a bunch of balloons into his crib! He loved playing with them. Then we had some more presents to open up and then he played with his new toys. We even tried giving him another slice of cake to see if he would dig in a little bit more, but it was pretty much the same as at his party. He just doesn't like how it feels haha. Silly little guy.
Henry had his one year check up and it was so sad to see him get his shots. This time was the first time that he kind of knew what was going to happen and wouldn't let go of my the whole time. He looked at her so indignantly when she put the first needle in, and then he had to sit there for three more! Oh my poor baby.
Rusty had a hike with the scouts and when he got back it was a lot earlier than we had been thinking, and the weather was so nice so we decided to go back out and do the same hike! I felt bad that he had to do the whole thing again, but it was so much fun! That was definitely one of my favorite hikes that we've done in a while. We went to Lime Kiln and hike along a beautiful path until we got to a big kiln where they used to heat up limestone. It was so cool! I loved it!
Henry's Highlights:
- Can high five now
- He likes to "help" us do things around the house now, especially the dishes.
- Still loves hide and seek
- He has always loved to clank things together, and this has not changed!
- Henry can feed himself with a spoon now
- He LOVES applesauce
- He loves to knock blocks over
- Bath time is still a favorite time! He's in the big tub now and loves splashing around.
- He can walk a few steps by himself, or just by holding one hand. He took his first steps on his own on February 5, and Rusty was actually home that morning because he had a doctors appointment. It was fun for us both to be there playing with him when he did that for the first time!
- Can stack his rings all on his own
- Can clap!
- Henry had his first dentist appointment! It went well; he didn't even cry. They checked his chip and said it was no problem at all!
- Henry LOVES dogs! Any time he sees one he gets so excited
- He can go up and down the stairs all by himself
- He rolls a ball to pass back and forth
