February: Harry Potter, Snow, and More Snow

The snow is getting out of control here! My backyard is filled halfway up and the kids and dog can jump right over the fence to the other side haha. We can't get Rusty's car out most of the time, and it's just the norm to go out and have another few inches on the car. We're still trying to take advantage of it and play a lot! But we're getting closer to being ready for it to melt.

Where the snow melts and drips off of the roof, it collects and then freezes and has made just a huge pile of ice.

Bailey is a special dog. She used to be outside so much of the time, that she has had a hard time adjusting to our tiny backyard. Poor thing. I am assuming that's part of why her being so close to me has gotten so much worse. Literally all day every day I could reach out my hand and touch her.

I put the purse I got Jessica on her so it would feel like Jessica was there instead of Bailey haha

Henry loves fishing so much, and last year we went ice fishing one time and he loved it so much that this year we promised him we would take him more. Rusty researched and found a good tent and got all of the supplies, and one weekend they went out together to test it out! They had a great time, but didn't catch any fish.

Midway Elementary is really cool, and I'm kind of sad that they are so cool because it makes my decision to homeschool harder. They did the Wranglers Read Harry Potter for the month, and one of the cool perks was that Heber Vally Railroad did a free Harry Potter train night for the kids at the elementary school. The kids were so excited and wore their robes and brought their wands. We got treats from the trolley, saw Dumbledore, Snape, Luna, Professor Umbridge, and Harry Potter. Della was particularly scared of Bellatrix Lestrange! The kids got to take turns and do wizards duels, and Henry did it twice he was so excited! Della was too nervous to try it, but her friend Ellie was on the train next to us so she came and sat with us for a little bit.

All aboard the Hogwarts Express!

Henry kept doing these weird creepy smiles haha

Like this creepy smile

Wizards duel!

Wizards duel!

It can be really hard to get out with everyone to do things, especially because it gets dark so early and Rusty gets home so late. But I have been loving the green space behind our house! Nobody is ever on it, so one day we decided to just put our snowshoes on and walk around back there. It was so peaceful and fun! We ended up doing it a few more times throughout the winter because it is so easy.

I have been really loving getting to know some people in the ward here better! One day I invited a bunch of women from church to go to the Alpenglobe restaurant with me for breakfast. It was a blast! I loved getting to talk to them- they are so funny! Another day the primary presidency all went to Provo to Taste for a real tea party. It was so much more delicious than I thought it would be!

I took the kids to a trampoline park for the first time and they were in heaven! It was always too expensive and not worth the cost in my opinion, but Bryndee invited us to go with them and I agreed. The kids had the absolute best time and were immediately asking me when they could go back.

There was one beautiful morning that I was able to go for a walk with Amelia. I love these slower, quiet mornings where we get to just move at a slower pace and enjoy ourselves. She loved running on the path and pointing out all the "snowmen" (snowballs) on the ground.

I had a very, VERY embarrassing moment this month. We decided that it would be so nice to get the car detailed. But Rusty wasn't going to be able to drop me off in the morning and so we had a predicament. He said that he could get an Uber to take me home, and I was surprised that there even were Ubers out here. I thought we should just reschedule, but he was sure it would be fine. So I went and dropped the car off, and then waited for 45 minutes trying to get all of that figured out. Finally the lady came over and offered to take me home and I felt so bad, but I had no other option. Then when we dropped me off I realized that because I left my car keys with them, I had no house key. So I had to run down the driveway to chase her car and she had to take me back to get the keys, then back home. I was mortified and left $30 in her car for gas and her time haha. Rusty felt bad and sent me a box of Crumble cookies to make me feel better.

I immediately put a spare key outside haha

Henry's birthday came! I love celebrating my little love bug. We sang happy birthday at breakfast time and he opened up his presents. Then I got to go to school to help out in his class for his Valentine's Day party! I didn't bring treats in on this day because they already were having treats, so the next day we brought in some donuts for his class. After school Henry had fun playing with his geode kit and then going to Daddy's office to play video games and have dinner. The Bartons came with us and we had a little party! I picked up some Chick-fil-A and a cake from CostCo. Henry requested an apple pie, but I think that is seasonal haha.

Henry's Favorites:
  • Color: Red
  • Food: Orange chicken
  • Game: Smash Bros
  • Activity: Color
  • Friend: Sage
  • Career: Artist
  • Book: Harry Potter

One Saturday we went to Dutch Hollow and hiked around! It was beautiful. We hiked out on the mountain biking loop that I love where you can see great views of the valley. The kids loved being able to roam around and be free! This winter has been hard because it has been so long and we've been busy and less able to play in the snow. This was a good day!

For my movie night, I chose to watch Funny Face! I love Aubrey Hepburn. And we had some leftover cookie bars from the linger longer that we ate so it worked out great! The movie was a little bit slow, and honestly not my favorite. But Della loved the dancing!

Amelia haha. She just froze like this.

We had kind of given up on finding a cool cabin in Bear Lake. We had looked so often and for so long and nothing seemed to work out. I randomly got on and checked one more time and found this cabin that looked beautiful and had only been on the market one day. Rusty called the agent and we went up and walked through it. It's weird, but even when we pulled up to the cabin before we went inside I got super excited about it. Then when we went in the basement (which isn't that exciting) I got even more excited, and by the time we got to the main level I was literally jumping up and down and clapping my hands! This was it for sure! I wanted to get it for our family- it was perfect. Large enough to fit a bunch of people, but not so big that it wasn't cozy. It had the cabin look that I love and the better build quality Rusty was looking for. We put an offer in that night and eventually we were able to close on it!

We went out to dinner at the Bear Trapper to celebrate!

Henry got to choose what to do for his birthday activity on the Saturday of his birthday. It was a no party year (the first and he was not thrilled with that plan) and he chose to spend the day ice fishing on Deer Creek. We brought the warm tent and some chairs for us all and we had a good time! Sadly, we didn't catch anything this time either but it was still fun!

Another Saturday we went back to Dutch Hollow, and this time we brought the snow shoes and the sleds! We were so pleased with ourselves (Rusty and I) and the kids liked the snowshoes for about five minutes haha. I had ordered three pairs of kid snowshoes, but Amelia's were the first ones to get here and the other two were delayed. So they took turns wearing those and most of the time they preferred to not have them on. They mostly liked to be pulled in the sled, which was really hard and even Bailey got tired of it haha. We spent a lot of the time on the a hill sledding down and having a blast!

Henry's had a program at school where the second grade sang some songs and did some dances about different community workers. He had the opportunity to do anything he wanted and he chose to be one of the four kids in his class that didn't have to sing or dance but had to memorize their part and say it. It was like a sentence long and he crushed it! He was so happy to not have to sing and dance haha. I was so proud to be able to go and watch him! Rusty had a meeting that he couldn't move and he was so sad to miss it. But we took lots of videos! Towards the end I started messing with Henry and winking and blinking my eyes all crazy. He started doing it back and I realized that to everyone else it probably looked like he was having a seizure haha,

Henry's Highlights:

  • He loves coming home and telling me about his progress with Lexia!
  • He is absolutely loving the Harry Potter month at school! He is reading the book so quickly and he gets so excited to talk about it. I love that he loves it like I do!
  • He is reading like a champ! Not only with Harry Potter, but with everything. He is insatiable with books and learning.
  • He was so happy to be able to go ice fishing twice this month! He loves it so much!

Adeline's Adventures:

  • Speech is going really well and her pronunciation of things has improved so much! She always complains about the classes, but they are doing so much good for her
  • I went in and talked to the principal at her school about her teacher Ms. Henry. She behaved extremely unprofessionally and inappropriately with Della during a Parent Teacher Conference, and Della has started coming home feeling like she's not smart enough to read. I am furious with that.
  • Della put her feet up on a box on the floor of the van and said, "Oh! Some good advice for my feet!" hahaha what?!

Amelia's Updates:

  • She started talking in full sentences!
  • She wants so badly to be included with her older brother and sister
  • One night Amelia told me she wanted to cuddle me in my bed. So obviously I said yes. Then we got in there and she said she wanted some candy haha. So yes she got that too. Whenever she talks about candy (which is a lot) she says, "IT'S SO YUMMY!"
  • If I say no to something (like the candy mentioned above) she always says in the cutest voice, "Maybe later?"
  • She says "nom" for bite. "I want to nom it" "Mom, don't nom my food!"
  • I love when she says "You're my best friend". I usually have to coach her to say it's me haha

Extra Pictures:

I got a whole bunch of totes to re-organize everything in the storage rooms!

We went to Walmart and all got stickers that Della decided we should put on our heads!

I finished up Henry's Book of Mormon! I'll write about it in March when I write about his baptism. But this took some time!

Eating leftover donuts from Henry's birthday at school by the fire while we read!

Henry was in charge of switching the laundry haha

Henry totally enthralled while watching the first Harry Potter after we finished reading it

Della was sad one day because a boy at school made fun of her for having a yellow tooth. We had a good talk, and then I went downstairs and got Hungry, Hungry Hippos out of my little stash of games/toys I keep for them for whenever I might need them. We had a blast all playing together and laughing our heads off!

Amelia is a Daddy's Girl!

Looking at some new wedding rings!

I got these slippers for Christmas and I'm absolutely in love

The night that Rusty was at Chandler's party, the kids and I had a little party and made orange julius, taquitos, and played Mario Party. We found the little mini games and we laughed SO hard!
