April Fool's Day has become somewhat of a tradition at our house! It never was a big deal for me growing up, but I did some things for the kids in 2020 and Henry in particular loved it so much that I wanted to do it again. We missed last year because we were just getting back from Florida, so this year I did a lot of things! He just thinks this whole day is so funny, and that makes me enjoy it too!
With the whole front yard disaster last year, and then the landscaping being done in the fall, we still had to plant things in the flower beds. One Saturday we took the kids and went and picked out some pretty bushes and planted them. I think it looks so classy and nice!
After the kids had helped us so much with planting the bushes, we took them to play video games at Rusty's office! There is a room there that looks like a castle and even has little torch lights. It has like four TVs and a bunch of different gaming systems. We went and played it and had a great time! It really is fun. We played Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart. Della and Henry could not get enough.
Easter! The older I get, the more I love this holiday and all of the pure and sweet hope that it symbolizes and represents. I am so grateful for a Savior who would go through the unthinkable pain and suffering so that I could have the blessings of having my family with me for eternity and being able to repent of my mistakes. This year we started doing the "fun" stuff on Saturday and then keeping Sunday focused on the spiritual side of it, and I really loved it.
Saturday morning we found the Easter baskets that the Easter Bunny hid for us, and then Rusty took Henry to a soccer game while I took the girls to our ward's Easter Egg Hunt. Everybody had a good time! Afterwards we went to the Red Sign Easter Egg Hunt and there were so many eggs! And fun activities all around.
Later that night we had Hailey and Stephen and Alice over to color some eggs! We had a yummy dinner with some carrot cake that I made and then we colored the eggs. The kids love doing it!
Sunday we ate breakfast and went to church, read about Easter, and stayed home as a family. Here is a picture of our kids in their Easter clothes (definitely taken in June because I couldn't get one earlier haha)
I took a quick two night getaway to St. George with Jessica and two of her friends for a birthday celebration for her! It was so fun to get away and to take a break for the normal stuff. We had a blast even just driving down, and stopping in Beaver for some food.
The first day we took a bike ride into Snow Canyon State Park, and it was just beautiful!
We had originally wanted to go out of town for spring break, but with Rusty's work being so crazy we knew we wouldn't be able to do that. So I decided to plan a day doing some of the Utah things that I've got on my list! It ended up being an awesome day, and Rusty even got to sneak away from work and come with us!
We started the day by going to see the cherry blossoms at the capitol in Salt Lake. We had never done that before even though we've lived her a long time, but I'm glad we did! It was really beautiful! The trees go all the way around the building on both sides of a pathway. There was a man from Fox doing the news about the blossoms and right as we got to him he started recording. One second later our trash blew out of our stroller and Henry ran after it to get it, and we looked like crazy people haha. Whoops.
After the blossoms we did something else that has been on my list for a long time: Ensign Peak! It's not a very long hike, but it's kind of steep and Della was not feeling it haha. We convinced her to get all the way to the top though!
For lunch we went to Hire's Big H, which has apparently been there since 1959, and now it has a few other locations around Salt Lake County. We got some yummy burgers and some of their delicious frosted root beer! It was definitely a win!
For dessert we stopped by Banbury Donuts, a cute little old house that has been turned into a donut shop. I thought the place was cute and liked their vibe, but honestly was not impressed with the donuts. They tasted pretty burnt. Yikes.
Swimming lessons are going full force right now to be able to finish up the ones I bought before they expire! One day Henry wasn't feeling really well, so I was just going to have Della do both and then I decided to have Amelia do it. The first ten minutes she was just zenned out and super chill, and then when she realized she couldn't get out and come to me she just screamed. It was like that for the rest of her lessons- just screaming, reaching her little arms out yelling for Mommy. It broke me. But she made lots of progress in the short lessons she did, she was able to start floating on her own! Henry has really pushed ahead of where he was and has made a lot of progress. Della is doing great!
One day we met Jessica in the Cottonwoods and did two waterfall hikes! The first one was pretty short, and the waterfall had some ice on it that Henry was completely fascinated with. The second one was like a five minute walk haha. Super fast! But we spent a lot of time there throwing rocks in the river, floating boats down, and just enjoying being outside.
My friend Chelsea was going on a trip to Spain and was stressed about getting everything packed, so I offered to watch her kids for the day so that she could get things done. We dropped them off on our way to Mendon. I took the kids to a new park where we picked them up called Big Bear Park. We had a picnic with some fried chicken, apples and chips. The weather was so nice! Then they came back and played at home while I packed for us to go to Mom and Dad's for the weekend.
It's always fun to go to Mom and Dad's house, but this time we went for the Baby Animal Days at the Heritage Center. We went up Thursday night and then spent Friday there. We were hoping that because it was a Friday it wouldn't be so crowded, but we were wrong. It was packed! We ended up going home a little early and a little disappointed because it was just so full of people. But we ate some yummy fair food, talked to some people about Pinkertons, saw the baby bear cubs from Bear World and did the pony rides. The kids even got some candy from a candy canon! It was a great day! There were other animal exhibits that we didn't get to see because the lines were just so long. I felt like I was at Disney World. But overall it was a really fun day!
The next day we went into town to watch the new Sonic movie. Both of my older kids just ate that up and loved it so much! Then we got some dinner at Mo Bettahs. We also took the side by side up the mountain behind their house and explored a little up there! We saw some deer and the kids were pretty excited about that. We plan to spend lots of time up there this summer!
Story time continues to be great! We met the Easter bunny and did an Easter egg hunt and we met Captain America and Wonder Woman! Della was pretty enthralled with Womner Woman, and Lia was too scared of the Easter Bunny to take a picture with it haha.
The kids have been asking to go swimming, so one day we took them to the Provo Rec Center. We had a blast! Henry went on the water slide a million times, and we even did the rock climbing wall together. Della loved playing on the toys, and Amelia even loved going down the slides this time! I met a really interesting man that started talking with me about the gospel. He said things in a kind of weird way, but it really did have an impact on me that made me want to be more devoted to Christ and a better teacher to my children.
Rusty's work had tickets for the Bees Game in Salt Lake, up in a box. We went this first time just us as a date and it was so fun! It definitely felt very summery! They fed us dinner and desserts, we watched the produce race, and got to talk to other people that were there. It was so fun!
We went to the Tulip Festival again this year! It is always surprising how much smaller it is than Seattle's, but it is still so beautiful and so fun to just be outside appreciating the beautiful Earth. We took a lot of pictures today, and for some reason Della got it into her mind that she should pose extra fancy with her head always tilted to a side and it looks so funny haha.
The Art at the MOA program is definitely one that I feel I did not utilize as much as I should have. It really is amazing, but the tickets go fast and I don't remember to sign up in time. And there are so many other things that they liek to do as well that it just gets overshadowed a little bit. But this time we had Henry because he didn't have school that day so we took hi m with us! They talked about flowers and they gave them each a litle pot to paint and some flower seeds to plant in some soil. My kids loved it!
Henry has his first ever Field Trip and I was lucky enough to be able to chaperone! I met them at the school and then we rode the bus together to BYU. We played for a little on some grass while we waited for the Bean Museum to open, and then we went in and looked around. After that we had lunch outside of the McKay building. It was weird to be back there after all of these years! Then we finished up by going to the Planetarium. Then we rode the buses back to the school! Henry was really sweet and wanted to hold my hand the entire time, and kept saying "Thank you so much for coming." I'm trying to hold on to these things because I know he will grow out of it so soon. I love him.
Henry's Highlights:
- Henry overheard us talking to our neighbors about the war in Ukraine. I've kept him pretty out of the loop with that stuff because his heart is so tender; we just pray for the people but keep it vague. Well, this conversation gave a lot more light to that. He was so upset that he couldn't stop talking about it all day. He went and got all his money, $11, and asked to send it to Ukraine to help people. Then he convinced Della to share her money as well.
- The same day after he learned more about the Ukraine war, we were driving and singing a preschool song of Della's (Henry had the same one in preschool). At the end it says, "You know that Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday are all great days." Without skipping a beat Henry says, "Except for the people in Ukraine." He was being genuinely sad, but it just sounded so funny haha.
- He sneaked Easter candy to school in his socks HAHA. He was so proud of himself. I asked if he ate it during class and he said no because that's against the rules. He ate it during lunch haha.
Adeline's Adventures:
- Still says, "That's else" for "That's all"
- She is such an amazing sister with Lia. She is so patient and kind.
- Della informed me the other day that she doesn't want any children. She said, "Do you have to get a shot to have kids?" I said no. She asked if I did, and I told her I did because it helped with pain but you don't have to get a shot. She said, "I just want two children. That come at the same time." Then twenty minutes later she said, "I changed my mind. I want no children." Haha. This girl.
- We were walking in the airport and there were cracks on the ground. Instead of saying the normal: "Don't step on a crack or you'll break your mama's back" she says, "Don't step on a crack or you'll die."
Amelia's Updates:
- Loves this farm book
- Loves doing "This little piggy" but only for the first three, then she switches and gives you her other foot.
- If you ask her if she's ok after she gets hurt she nods her head vigorously with a very serious expression on her face
- She raises her eyebrows up and down as she nods her head when she's really excited about something. It's hilarious.
- She loves Della's baby doll
- Rolls her eyes
- Loves to take pictures with our phones
