May: 10 Years and Vegas

Months are just flying by at this point in my life. I don't know where the time is going, but I feel fully robbed of my time with my babies, especially with Amelia. I swear she was just barely born and yet she's already eight months old! So let's start with that, my baby is now 8 months old!

Story time at the mall is still going until summer starts so we have been enjoying it while we can. The beginning of May they had Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader come, so we borrowed costumes from the Bartons and let the kids dress up as Darth Vader and Yoda. They are so cute! Another story time was a visit from Tarzan and Jane.

We had a little mini roommate reunion while Jamie was in town! Chelsea, Corina, Jamie and I all got together and were able to get all of our kids together too. It was low key and fun to just hang out with these wonderful women!

Adeline had her dance recital! It was on Cinco de Mayo and she did the Mexican Hat Dance. It was a cute concert and was very low key, it was just in the teacher's backyard and they had a taco truck there. It was really fun and Della was so great! I know I'm biased, but even the teacher said that she was too advanced for her class and she needed to move up. I feel conflicted because I like how chill this new place is, but she was definitely challenged more with the last company and was performing at a much higher level. We'll see what we do in the fall. Della was also way less impressed with her costume this time haha. She LOVED the glittery pink tutu, and this time she wore black pants and a white shirt. She legitimately cried. I still think she looked adorable.

We are gearing up for summer finally! One of the things that always makes it feel like summer is to get
the fire pit out and make smores. We had a great time telling stories where we each said one sentence
and took turns. Henry made it so every story ended up with dinosaurs eating everyone haha.

I found out about an orchestra concert at Ashton Gardens, and we decided it would be great to go and
have fun while also giving the kids some exposure to classical music. They had food trucks there and so
we got some yummy dessert waffles and fries from Bruges. It was kind of chilly still, so we all had our
jackets on and laid down listening to it for a while. Then I got up to try to walk Lia around until she fell
asleep and the kids started dancing to the music over on the side. We all loved it, especially Henry
(read below in his highlights haha).

We did something pretty cool on May 10, which is the day that Beckie passed away. I was grateful to have a distraction and it ended up being the 152 Anniversary of the Golden Spike. Chelsea and I drove out there and they did the cutest reenactment and brought the kids up and showed them all kinds of cool things. I learned so much that day!

While we were out there we went and visited the Spiral Jetty in the Great Salt Lake. Chelsea has a bucket
list of things she wants to do before she moves from Utah and this was on it. The kids had a good time
stomping around in their rain boots in the lake and seeing the cool foam and salt crystals that were formed.

haha

Jessica took Henry out this month for his birthday gift and he had a blast! They went rock climbing and he
was so brave. Della was bummed to be left out, so we did a girls night and included Lia for the first time!
We put on our matching headbands and did face masks and fingernail polish (None for Amelia).

I had heard about this really cool dinosaur drive through thing where this company travels around to
different cities in the US and brings giant mechanical dinosaurs and sets them up in parking lots. You
listen to an audio guide and drive through to look at these dinosaurs that are actually built to scale. Henry
was in heaven, and Della had a love/hate relationship with it. She would get excited and then get really
scared. Lia really liked looking out the window haha. We met my parents out there for it so we all drove
through it together in their expedition. At the end Mom bought the kids these blow up T-Rex dinosaurs, and
Della named hers Rosie and Henry named his Rexy. So we have Rexy and Rosie.

Mothers Day came again like it does every year! Seriously, time is just flying by. Rusty and the kids
in them for the yard. For dinner we had a charcuterie board and watched a movie as a family. Theybrought me breakfast in bed and Rusty helped the kids make some cement pavers with their
handprints.

I figured out that because we already pay for unlimited childcare at the gym, Rusty and I could use that
for date nights. But then I also realized that it doesn’t mean that we have to go to work out because they
have the swimming pool we can play in and they also have an area where you can play pool and shuffle
board for free. So one night we went over there and played pool. The kids had a great time and we did too!
There were some guys there that play pool a lot and were really good, and they kept laughing at me and
Rusty haha. One of them kept trying to help me, but he didn’t speak English (he was Polynesian) so it
didn’t work too well haha.

We renewed our Thanksgiving Point membership in time to do the Tulip Festival, so we needed to get
back into the habit of using it. I took the kids to Farm Country, and the last time we went there was when
the horse bit Della’s finger haha. This time she had no interest in feeding anything but that was okay. They
rode horses, the tractor, played inside, saw lots of animals and just enjoyed some time outside in the
good weather.

For Mom’s birthday, Angie had an idea that we could all get together and surprise her. We met at a
Mexican restaurant in Ogden and were all sitting at the table when she walked in. She cried, which was a
good sign I guess haha! After dinner we went to see Freaky Friday at a little local theater in Ogden. This
was the first time I left Lia, and I was really nervous about it but it was fun! We slept at Mom’s house, and
hung out together until around lunch time on Saturday and then we all went home. It was a great time to
be able to be together! And shout out to Rusty for being so willing to keep the kids all alone so I could go.

May 19 was our ten year anniversary! I can't believe that we are old enough to have been married that long, and it honestly feels like we just got married that long ago. But then I remember all of the things we've done together and I look at the family we have created and I know that we have been building a life together for some time. I'm so grateful to be married to that man! This anniversary was a bit of a let down though because we spent it driving in the car to Las Vegas so that Rusty could go to dinner and start his weekend away for his Mastmermind Conference. We started driving and Della threw up, and then she threw up again, and again, and again. She finally stopped when we got to Mesquite and was fine the rest of the day.

The next morning we went downtown! I was a brave soul to do that without Rusty and all three kids, but honestly I felt fine about it until a man told me that I was brave to be out there all by myself and that I should stay safe. Then I panicked and just wanted to go home haha. But we had fun! We started at the Venetian, and I think that was the cleanest and nicest place we went to the whole day. We watched the gondolas and listened to the music and ate some yummy gelato. Then we went and walked past Treasure Island so they could see the pirate ships, and we walked all the way over to Mandalay Bay because Bryndee told me that you could go in and see animals for free. That is a lie and it was really gross and smokey to walk through the casino and I was unhappy about it haha. But we made it back to the hotel alive and I was happy about that.

The next day we went out to Red Rock Park and did some hiking, and playing in the sand! The kids loved climbing the big rocks and Amelia loved touching the sand. We did a really cool interpretive trail that showed where the Native Americans from that region made shelters and what they ate, and Henry really loved that. It started sleeting on us so we ran back to the car!

For our last day without Rusty we went out to Blueberry Hill for breakfast and it was so fun and delicious! Their blueberry muffins were particularly good. The kids kept talking about that place the whole rest of the trip. After that we spent the day at the hotel swimming and playing golf on their little putting green. The weather finally warmed up enough that we could go swimming haha.

We had one full day with Rusty and we spent it doing some really fun things! We walked down the strip and saw the Bellagio perform Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, visited the M&M store, and wandered through Hershey's Chocolate World. We saw so many fancy cars that Henry decided he wants a ferrari and is currently saving his money for one.

Rusty had a great time at his conference! He made a lot of good contacts and learned a lot!

The last day we decided we would do the big ferris wheel on our way out of town, but it was closed :( So we just went and stood in the really long line to get a picture at the Las Vegas sign haha. Then we started driving home! We got lunch at a Hawaiin place and ate it at the coolest park/splash pad every. It was Dinosaur Junction in St. George and it was amazing! The kids had a great time running around for a while before we got back in the car and finished driving home. This time, Henry threw up in the car. Twice. SERIOUSLY.

There is a new park going in right next to the Provo Rec Center, and the kids and I have been so excited about it as we have watched the progress every time we drive past it. It is finally finished and we tried it out and the kids love it! There is a giant cement slide that they really love and a zip line. There is also a little pretend fairy house that they love too. Also, one afternoon we tried out a park in Orem that we had never been to before! It is fun to get out of the routine and try something new, even if it is just a new park.

Henry lost his top front tooth, tooth #3, and he looks so old with it gone. I just want him to slow

down and stay my little baby but he is leaving me behind in the dust.

Phyllis came to visit! She said it was because we were taking too long to get out there, which is fair haha.
We had been planning on coming in March or April and then it just kept getting pushed back. It was fun to
have her here! She helped the kids make cabin cookies (which they were thrilled about) and she played
outside with them and did puzzles with them.

Grandma Phyllis showed us a store she loves and I got them these hats!

Phyllis and I took the kids to Paul Ream Wilderness to play

Memorial Day weekend was really fun! Friday we got a babysitter so we could go see a movie with
Rusty's work friends. They were doing a special deal where we got free tickets and free gift cards for
snacks, but we thought Amelia was too little to leave home so we brought her. I figured she would be
okay at the theater and I could get her to sleep. Turns out she likes movies, a lot, and loves to talk in
them. She wasn’t being crazy loud so it would have been fine if we were at A Quiet Place II, which is
pretty much a silent film haha. So any sound she made just seemed so loud. I left to try to get her to go
to sleep but it never worked and we eventually just left. We did end up stopping the car and jumping
over a traffic cone for some reason that I cannot remember.
Saturday we hiked Buffalo Peak! Rusty had never done the hike before, and it had been a long time since
the kids and I did it. We also did it in the fall so it was fun to see it in the spring with all of the wildflowers!
Amelia was a champ and did so good in the backpack; she loves being able to see over Rusty's head
and be included in everything going on. We spent time looking for tracks, and Henry had his animal tracks
shirt on so he was pretty psyched about that haha.

On Memorial Day we were planning on having a BBQ with a few of our friends, but Rusty woke up the
night before throwing up. We cancelled but then didn't really know what to do because Rusty felt totally
fine so it seemed silly to just do nothing. We ended up taking the morning easy to see how he was feeling
and then heading over to a pond in Highland to let the kids swim and play. Even though this isn't what we
planned, it was honestly so great. It was low key but exciting for the kids and it felt so much like summer.
I am ready for summer to start! It was hilarious to watch the kids try to balance on the floaties haha, and
Lia was happiest to just sit with us instead of being in the water.

 Henry's Highlights

  • Randomly said, "End quote" the other day. Without saying anything else. I asked him why he said that and what it means and he said, "I don't know I heard it in General Conference." haha
  • Henry says the funniest things. At the outdoor concert he said, "Man they are so good! Like slam that door! They are just so good! Slam that door so hard!" Hahaha. I must say shut the front door in front of him ha.
  • Henry used tape and his dirty underwear to make a trap so that Rusty would have to smell his yucky underwear haha
  • He also says, "Back in the day" when he talks about something in the past

Adeline's Highlights

  • "Blanklet"
  • Is really interested in doing school. She's tired of being left out, and as I give her tasks to do that I think there is no way she can, she surprises me every time and can do so many of them. She can count to 15 and can copy the letters in her name. Imagine what she could do if I actually taught her instead of her just overhearing what I'm doing with Henry haha
  • She found a green ear plug of Rusty's and was so excited because she didn't know that they made them in green. Then she slowly put it on her forehead and said, "I'm a unicorn!" Then she put it in her mouth haha. So gross
  • She says, "Gate" for great and she says it all the time. When you answer a question, or tell her something exciting she always just responds: "gate."

Amelia's Highlights

  • Lia gets the shakes when she really wants something, like food or the car keys
  • We started sign language with her after she turned 8 months! She can do "food", and does it frequently haha
  • She can high five Daddy!
  • She is SO close to crawling!
  • Her favorite toy is a basting brush from the kitchen
  • Lia does this head tilt thing and I love it so much
