October: Recovery, pumpkins, and haunted wagons

The biggest thing that happened this month was Rusty's recovery. He had his final surgery on October 3, and was able to come home on Sunday the sixth. It was really hard having him in the hospital and I hope that we never have to do anything like that again. It was exhausting and emotionally draining for us both, and then Rusty had the physical stuff to deal with as well. Henry and Adeline spent some time with my parents at their place and some time with Phyllis or me at the house. It was hard on Henry, who was old enough to understand that something was wrong and to be worried about it. When they would come and visit Rusty got so excited and saved his biggest smiles for them. Both of the kids just wanted to be touching Rusty all of the time.

One day I took the kids out on a date to get some pizza

And then we picked out some balloons for Rusty. Of course Henry got brown and Della got pink haha. They go so well with the Halloween ones they chose.

These kiddos waited so patiently to be able to give the balloons to their daddy. They were so excited!

A grateful daddy!

About to go in for the second surgery! I had to leave because I thought I was going to pass out haha.

Our breakfast date

X-ray after all the hardware was put in

One day I spent at home making a bunch of freezer meals to be ready for the recovery

Pictures from our kiddos and Brayden

Finally discharged!!!!

We needed to get a recliner because these couches did not work for him, haha especially when he misjudged where he should go and then couldn't scoot down

We had a little toast the night that Rusty got home. I had been saving that bottle for something special, and this definitely was it!

Something fun that we did was go to the Scarecrow Festival at Thanksgiving Point with Scarlett and Tauni. Henry and Della had a great time picking out their favorite scarecrows and spending some time outside in the great weather. We also took a break and played in the leaves!

Toward the end of the month we had our first family outing at the Zoo! We met my parents there to go and see some of the lights for Boo at the Zoo, but we ended up not even staying that long. We did see some of the lights turn on before we left though! Rusty was a champ and did so good. We got him a wheelchair and it was a little bit tricky to push him around with all the hills haha. But, I was doing better than the lady that ran into our table at the restaurant with her electric one hahaha!

Adeline LOVED the carousel. She never wanted to get off. She had a blast!

Waving at Daddy!

On our way out we saw some princesses. Della rushed right over and was only too happy to take a picture with them and be a princess too.

Henry needed some support and encouragement in order to take a picture with "all those girls"

It wouldn't be Halloween without a visit to Cornbellys! This place has quickly become a favorite of ours, even though it is always so packed. We go and get the most delicious pumpkin and apple donuts, watch magic shows or pig races or whatever is going on, go on hay rides, do zip lines, play in the corn pit, do giant slides, you name it! It is a super fun place and this year we went with Jessica and Grandma and Papa which made it even better!

Apple Cider Day! I love Apple Cider day! It was BITTERLY cold this year though, so it was cut short and was a little different than most years haha. But the kids went out and still loved riding the horses and drinking apple cider and eating soup before we all went and hid inside.

The kids wanted to be like Bailey and obey the commands haha

We had a little party for carving pumpkins this year and invited Jess and Aaron and Mom and Dad over to join in with us. Rusty couldn't do one because he couldn't sit up that long, but he had fun eating the jack-o-lantern pizza and the yummy treats that the kids helped me make. Jess was a super fun aunt and brought dry ice to make a potion with the kids. The LOVED it!

October is also time for our annual pumpkin walk with Hike it Baby! I hadn't come back to a hike with them since we got back from our trip, so it had definitely been a while. But this hike is so much fun and the kids always love it. Rusty came too and we just pushed him around in a wheelchair that I borrowed from someone I met at Nature School.

It was finally Halloween! In the morning, I invited a bunch of families in our ward to go to a nearby retirement center and go trick or treating. The kids had fun but it was mostly so fun to see the residents' faces just light up. They loved seeing all of the little kids in costumes.

This is how my sweet babies looked for Halloween!

My police man

My Snow White

This is how they looked after I bundled them all up haha.

Trick or treating! We only did a few houses because Rusty couldn't be up and about for that long and it was REALLY cold

Henry's Highlights

  • Henry is loving preschool! He has a lot of friends and is so happy to be going.
  • Henry is so sweet to Rusty while he is recovery. He is constantly bringing him things, and often Rusty's recliner is full of the toys that Henry brought him to play with
  • Henry is doing great with his online preschool too!

Adeline's Adventures
  • Della wears socks on her hands ALL OF THE TIME

  • She is talking more and more!
  • She is very kind and soft to Rusty while he is hurt
  • Feels left out that she can't do preschool, and wants to do the online preschool that Henry does too so we made her an account and she wants to do it all by herself. She needs help though, so it only lasts a few seconds.

Extra Pictures

For Beckie's birthday I like to buy the last gift I bought her and then give it a women's shelter.

We got some Taco Bell for lunch for Beck's birthday too!

Angie was in town for a yoga training, so we met up with her for dinner and some shopping. I love her!

Jessica and I went for a haunted hayride in Midway! It was so fun! They told the story of the Headless Horseman, and had creepy characters come to life. It was great!

At Brayden's birthday party

The new recliner!!! He was so happy, and that was the most comfortable he had been for a long time

Della and Kade... future engagement announcement? :)

Della sure had a lot of practice watching doctors take care of her daddy and she wanted a turn

Getting the staples taken out

Della was supposed to be in bed, and I came in my room like thirty minutes later and found her like this in my bed

Some kind soul sent us some Crumbl cookies! People were so kind to us throughout this process

Our first dinner sitting as a family at the table

The whole armor of God lesson

This is Della in the giant field all alone at nature school.

If you zoom in on the picture, this is what she is doing. She is pretending to be a dog, holding a stick in her mouth, all alone.

The leaf people we made at nature school!

Not feeling well

My cycling class did a black light thing for Halloween that was super fun!

One day Della woke up and decided to put her pretend make up all over herself and Bailey

We had a party at the church for Halloween! The kids dressed up and did different activities and then did a costume parade at the end.
