July: Double Birthday Party

July somehow sneaked right up on us, but we were ready to welcome our first full month back at home with open arms. It is really nice to be able to be settled in and get back to some normal routines. I love traveling so much, and I know that I will want to do it again someday, but for now I am totally fine to stay home haha. Six months is a long time to be gone!

For the Fourth of July we went out to my parents house. We played in the little pool in the backyard, had a yummy bbq, and then skipped fireworks because it got really rainy haha. It didn't really feel like the Fourth of July, but it was nice to have some down time.

My mom bought me this shirt without reading it haha

While at my parents house we also got out on the horses! Adeline was terrified and screaming when I got her on, but once she was up there she calmed right down and actually loved it! She threw a huge fit when it was time to get off, which is not ideal at all, but I'm happy she likes horses now. Henry is so natural on a horse and he loves it. He always talks about how he is a cowboy.

We also went over and visited Beckie's grave. I hadn't been there since we got back home so it was nice to spend some time there and talk to the kids about her.

July 6 was Adeline's Birthday!! We set up her toy while she was sleeping and put a bunch of balloons in her room. She was pretty out of it at first when she woke up, but then she got so excited! We got her a water table and Phyllis got her and Henry a little thing that is like a pool and a sprinkler mixed together. We spent the day playing outside with those things, had a little cake with Grandma and Papa and then had one more surprise for her.

Dad came out and helped Rusty build this mud kitchen. It is the best thing EVER.

To end Della's birthday we took the kids to the Kangaroo Zoo, which has nothing to do with kangaroos or zoos haha. It is a bouncy house place and the kids liked it a lot last year so we tried it. And they had a great time! We are so grateful to have this wonderful little two year old in our family. She fits in like she has always been here, and brings joy and smiles wherever she goes. We love you Adeline!

Because we were gone for Henry's birthday, we did a joint birthday part for the kids in July. It was pirate themed and so much fun! I realized that I like planning fun games and parties, but also this is the first time I decorated a cake. And I realized that I really like that! We did a pirate hook ring toss, had a dress up station, pin the x on the map, a treasure hunt, and had some really fun food.

After the party, we realized that we had forgotten to give Henry his big birthday present: his new two wheeler bike! Haha ah man. So we gave it to him and it was a little big. We ended up borrowing the exact same bike from the Bartons for him to ride. But while we had the bikes out we played around on the PW with Jessica and Aaron. It was so funny!

We did a little sisters getaway to St. George! Jessica couldn't make it, but the rest of us had a fun time relaxing at the pool, going to the temple before it's closed for remodels, and seeing a play at the Tuacahn! I mixed up the dates so we actually went a day late haha, but they gave us some different seats that ended up being better than our original ones so no complaints!

Ang and I went and did some hot yoga classes and had so much fun while we died haha

I don't feel like it would be summer without a baseball game! We got to take the kids to an Orem Owlz game, and we met the Bartons there. It was a fun, summer activity even though we lost. None of us were even really watching the game haha. Henry did get stung by a crazy bee that went around stinging a bunch of people! It was nuts!

Henry started swimming lessons! He has been so excited about this for a long time because he wants to learn how to swim so he can surf and scuba dive haha. #priorities. I was so proud of him for being so brave and jumping right in the water. After the first day they moved him up a class, and a few days later they moved him up another class. His next session he jumped a class too, so I think he ended up skipping three or four levels because he was doing so well! He is a natural swimmer and I can see him enjoying swimming for his whole life.

While Henry was doing lessons, Della got to play on the toys!

The power went out one day, so the kids had to get out of the pool. Luckily I had some library books that I passed out to the teacher of the tiny kids to help distract them.

We got to go on a date! WHAT?! I know, it was magic! Pure magic! We got free tickets to go and see Peter Pan at the Scera Outdoor Theater and it was so cute and fun. I love seeing plays outside!

We also had our normal, summer-time fun! We went to splash pads, parks, library events, and Jessica's house for some fun bbqs.

Adeline fell asleep in the swing at the splash pad haha

Puppet show at the library

Splash pad fun!

The only picture I could get of Henry haha. He was moving too fast

We went and saw the new Aladdin movie and it was fantastic! I loved it so much, and the songs were unreal. The kids enjoyed it too!

We got Della some real make up for her birthday, and enjoyed trying it out haha. We all became so beautiful.

One night we went camping in the backyard! We had dinner, roasted s'mores, played Mother May I, and then the girls slept in the tent and the boys slept in hammocks. But when we woke up poor Henry had been eaten alive by mosquitoes! I have never seen so many mosquito bites on such a small person, or on any person for that matter! I felt so awful.

Another present we got Adeline was a little tea set, so we had fun having tea parties! The kids loved having pom poms for the sugar and getting to spoon it out haha. I love these little kids! There is something about having a little tea party with your kids, especially your little girl, that is just surreal and magical. Like when Rusty taught Henry how to play baseball. It's magic.

Henry's Highlights:

  • We started reading chapter books for read alouds and he likes them so much more than I thought he would! We started with Magic Treehouse books.
  • The other day he asked me out of the blue, "Mom, do you think that pirates that sailed the seven seas ever got tired?"
  • He's getting braver! We got to a park and he walked right up to some kids and said, "Okay, I'm here!"

Adeline's Adventures:

  • Every color is "blue." Even if I ask her to repeat a color word she will say, "No. Blue." I honestly don't know if she's color blind or just stubborn haha, but I think it's the latter.
  • Food is "Yum Yum" or "Yuh yuh yum". She wakes up every morning asking for that.
  • She's got these crazy poses and attitude that I have no idea where it came from.
  • She's starting to like books more and more
  • Got a little cold. Follows me around pointing to her nose saying, "Nose? Nose?"
