Sum, Sum, Summertime

Summer came early and hot this year. In my experience and what I have heard, it's not really summer here until after the 4th of July. Well this year that was completely wrong. we started having good weather all the way back in May, and this winter it never really got too rainy or too cloudy either. I've heard a couple things about this. Number one: that this was a really great winter, and Number two: that it's never really as bad as they say it is. they just don't want any more people to move here. Regardless of what it is, I will take it. I'm falling more and more in love with it here and I now am the one that doesn't really see a reason to move. So anyways, we're in the middle of summer now and July always starts out with a bang with Independence Day! This year we did our own thing and it was actually really nice to not have any plans. We got to just take it easy! Friday Rusty didn't have work so we had a big breakfast, all red, white and blue of course. :) Then we went and biked Centennial Trail all the way into Snohomish. And it was a hot, hot day. On the way back we stopped and checked out this little creek thing that people go swimming in. It was nice to put our feet in because it was so hot outside, but dragging the bikes and trailer down that hill was hard haha. Probably not worth it.

'Merica!

On Saturday, the actual Fourth of July, we hung around and played in the sprinkler. Let me tell you: cute naked baby bums in the sprinkler is the best way to celebrate the Fourth. After that we went and saw Inside Out because we had some free tickets and because it was so blasted hot. Then we went home and had a little BBQ in the backyard with tasty homemade burgers, watermelon, root beer, BBQ chips, and pasta salad! Yum! Henry got to gnaw on some watermelon for the first time, which he went absolutely crazy for. Then we put H Man to bed and laid out on the hammock and watched fireworks around our house before loading him into the car (while still sleeping, I love that he does that) to go and see the fireworks over the water. A great day!

This month Rusty also surprised me with Balloon Day (a made up holiday that is just a surprise day)! He stayed home from work and we went out to breakfast and then to the Lighthouse Park. Then we came back home and took a nap and he worked on his bike to go riding the next night with a friend.

We went out to dinner with some of Rusty's work friends, and then made it for the end of a little party with some friends from church. One of our friends' uncles has a house right on the lake with jet skis, tubes, paddle board, kayaks, paddle boat... everything. We went over there for dessert and playing on the lake and it was a BLAST! I used to love tubing, but we went once in Bear Lake and it was so crazy and rouch that Rusty puked and I thought I was going to get a concussion haha. Since then neither of us are super stoked on it, so we told the guy to just go easy. And it was so fun we could not stop laughing. We were just cracking jokes the whole time and trying to splash each other and knock each other off. Finally towards the end we told him that he could go fast and it was awesome! I think it cured our hatred of tubes haha.

My dad had a conference for work in Seattle so we were lucky enough to get to see my parents! Friday night they came to the house and we had dinner, then Saturday we met them at their hotel and went and saw Wicked! It was my dad's first time, Rusty's and my mom's second, and my third. And it was wonderful! Glinda was really spunky and a lot of fun. After the show we stopped by the cheesecake factory and each got a slice before heading back home. Where was Henry you ask? Oh he was at a babysitter's... FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER. I cried driving away and leaving him, and although I kept thinking about him it was really fun to have time with just Rusty and my parents. And Katie and Cody were so, so great and sent lots of pictures to calm this mama's heart.

Henry was such a stud. I was so glad he was happy!

And then I was like... Wait. Why is he so happy? Why doesn't me miss me?

But oh well. He had fun :)

Lots of fun :)

Yummy cheesecake!

We all drove back to Mukilteo to pick up Mr. H and then went to Ivar's for dinner. We sat out on the deck and enjoyed the cool weather and views and had delicious food!

Sunday we met up with them in Edmonds to walk along the pier and then took the ferry over to Kingston. Kingston is so cute and the downtown is right by the ferry tennis so you can just walk on and leave the car. We went over ave walked around, got a pizza, and some awesome crepes!

Monday I met my mom at my cousin's house with my aunt (they live in Bothell) for lunch, and then we came back and the boys stayed home and Mom and I went shopping for decorations for H's room. I AM IN LOVE WITH THEM!

In other news, we bought a canoe. Haha. We love kayaking, but with Henry it just seemed that a canoe would be a little better for him and for the other kids that we plan on having. We had decided to wait until next summer, but a guy at Rusty's work was selling one and it was a great deal so we took it! It's old, but sturdy and got a lot of life left. So of course we had to go and get everyone life jackets. We went to Cabela's and Henry saw his first fish tank! He loved it! It's so fun that these little things become more exciting with him. We also bought a little fire pit for the back yard, so one Saturday night we went out in the canoe and then put Henry to bed and went out and roasted hot dogs and smores. Such a perfect summer night! I love it!

Henry is such a champ. We seriously are so lucky. He just laid at the bottom of the canoe and talked and smiled, I fed him a bottle (which the life jacked held up perfectly haha) and then took a little nap.

It's so beautiful here! I love where we live. Out on the lake we saw a bald eagle swoop down and catch a fish and then go into this tree to eat it. I know you can't see it in the picture, but we watched him for a while. So incredible! Then we saw a falcon do the same thing. Really cool.

Time for Henry's Highlights! Man I love that little guy. The phases that he is going through right now are awesome, really so fun and exciting. He changes so much! I get sad sometimes and wonder where my little baby has gone.
  • Rolled from back to tummy 7/19 so now he can roll both ways!
  • He moves like crazy in sleep

  • Lots of laughs. Seriously the best sound in the world. He loves to see Daddy do silly things, to be tickled, and to play tug of war with a diaper wipe.
  • He started eating some solid food! He tried bananas first on the 20th, then some oatmeal, carrots and sweet potatoes. He LOVES the bananas and sweet potatoes, and is not so sure about the carrots. He really does love eating real food though and will get so excited and try to shove the spoon in his mouth as fast as he can.
Daddy's first time feeding H. Right as he was about to take the first bite he kicked the bowl and spilled all of the oatmeal haha.
  • He got a new bouncer to borrow from our friends and he LOVES IT. Like seriously loves it to death. He will just bounce and bounce for dayyyyzzz in that thing.

  • He does this weird thing where he sometimes kicks right leg repeatedly... like a dog that is getting scratched. But he does it at different times and seemingly for no reason.
  • He found his tongue this month and will play with it and stick it out a lot. It looks so funny.
  • He can do this new cool trick and can take off diaper strap, which I am not thrilled about.
  • He has been practicing sitting up and is getting pretty good! By the end of the month he could do it for like 15 minutes at a time!
  • Teething. Oh teething. It hurts him which makes me sad, and he has stopped sleeping so well which also makes me sad. We got about five nights of sleeping through the night and then it went back to every three hours, every two, or every four/five. He also drools constantly and puts everything in his mouth.
Extra Pictures :)

Hanging out with friend Bennett
