Well we have been keeping busy doing things here! We are trying our best to get as much done before we have to leave. I can't believe that we only have 6 weeks left here! Time has gone by so fast and our summer of fun is almost over. We are getting a little homesick for our mountains and our friends in Utah, but we know that we will miss it here too.
I thought I would post some more about some of the adventures that we have gone on. I am falling behind but I am trying to catch up!!!
This is Pioneer Square. It's a pretty sketchy part of town, the kind you don't want to be in when it's dark. But in the day it's pretty good, you just don't look anyone in the eye ;) Anyways, we heard that the best hot dog stand in Seattle was down here so we wandered around and looked and couldn't find it anywhere.
This is the Freemont Bridge, otherwise known as TROLL BRIDGE! I was so excited to go and see the troll you have no idea.
The famous Troll Ave.
Here we are with the Troll! I didn't know, but it is a real VW bug! I thought they just molded one, but they covered a real one up with this cement. Apparently the Freemont City Council wanted to do something in the city that would invite a larger appreciation for art. So they had some ideas offered and picked between them. The Troll under the bridge is what won out! I think it's perfect. Having been in Seattle for just the short amount of time that I have had, I have learned about the importance of VWs here. We have been counting VW buses that we see, and are up to 94 by the way, but that's not included all of the other VWs everywhere. These people sure love them some Volkswagens!
I love the Troll.
Then we went to the Kite Shop by Gas Works Park to buy a kite so we could fly it on Kite Hill! This is "The Place" to buy a kite in Seattle, so Rusty was pretty surprised to find out that they were closing. It's a pretty cool place though, I must say. They have all kinds of kites, even those cool trick ones! We didn't trust ourselves though and went with a pretty basic one... with a sweet design!
We got Bruce. Say, "Hello, Bruce!"
We really love Bruce.
It's so fun just to hang out at Gas Works Park. Of all the places that we have been in Seattle, Gas Works is definitely up there for me. It's just so chill and so different from places in Utah or Idaho. Lake Union is right there with people out on it on sunny days, and the Seattle skyline is right behind us. It is a beautiful park.
So this is why Gas Works is called Gas Works. It was a coal gasification plant, I still don't know what that means, but I know that it is the only place in the U.S. where remnants of one of those still exists. So... yeah. It's pretty cool I guess.
The parts inside the pavilion were painted these bright colors to make it look more fun and inviting than the old rusty ones outside I guess... It looked cool to me!
So. There is this place called Gorditos.
It is home to the Baby Burrito. I told my Mom about it and she got excited and said, "I love anything little and baby sized!" What my poor mother didn't know is that these burritos aren't "baby" sized, they're actually baby-sized.
There are pictures all over the walls of these burritos next to real babies. Haha it was so hilarious.
This was the thing that they gave you to bring your order out to you. Our's was a llama named Rene.
And this is the baby burrito! It was true to it's size requirements, but I was surprised at how good it actually tasted. I can't decide if I am proud or ashamed that we did eat that whole thing...
After eating our Mexican food the size of an infant we decided that we needed to go walk it off. So we went to Green Lake and played catch and frisbee and walked on the greenbelt for a little bit. It ended up being a beautiful night weather wise and this lake really is beautiful.
